Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient

A native of South Carolina, Mike enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967. He entered basic training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, California. Subsequently, he was selected for specialized training in Basic Underwater Demolition training in Coronado, California and the Navy's elite SEAL community.

The United States Navy Sea, Air and Land (SEAL) forces are the elite Special Operations Forces of the U.S. Navy, employed in unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, direct action, Counter-Terrorism, and special reconnaissance operations.

The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Generally presented to its recipient by the President of the United States of America in the name of Congress, it is often called the Congressional Medal of Honor.

As of JUNE 2nd, 2006, there are only 111 living Congressional Medal of Honor recipients remaining.
